Lupita Nyong’o Wins Oscar for Best Supporting Actress

Lupita Nyong’o won the Oscar award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role on Sunday night for her role as Patsey, a favored but abused slave in Steve McQueen‘s “12 Years a Slave.” Nyong’o beat out several high-profile actresses such as Julia Roberts of “August: Osage County,” Sally Hawkins of “Blue Jasmine,” June Squibb of “Nebraska,” and Jennifer Lawrence of “American Hustle.” It was the first nomination for the Mexico City-born, Kenyan-raised actress. Nyong’o was three weeks shy of graduating from the Yale School of Drama when she was cast by McQueen in her breakout role. Nyong’o also won in the same category at this year’s SAG Awards. She thanked McQueen “for taking a flashlight and shining it underneath the floorboards of this nation and reminding us what it is we stand on.” For a full list of winners, visit the Academy’s official website.

Watch Tyrese Gibson’s ‘Django Unchained’ Audition Tape (VIDEO)

Gossip surrounding Quentin Tarantino‘s 2012 film Django Unchained has hit the internet yet again. We’ve now learned that Tyrese Gibson (Fast & The Furious, Baby Boy) was possibly in the running for the lead role of Django. The role eventually went to Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, but not before Gibson created his very own audition tape. In the tape, Gibson adapts a Southern accent that gets lost in translation soon after.
